Canada Increases its Commitment to Fighting Polio

At the Vaccine Summit in April 2013, Canada’s former Minister of International Cooperation, Julian Fantino, announced Canada would increase its commitment to fighting polio to $250 million over 5 years.

The announcement followed four months of intensive advocacy work by ACTION partner RESULTS Canada and its committed volunteers, in partnership with allies such as Rotary International and the Global Poverty Project. RESULTS Canada volunteers penned letters to the editors on the importance of investing in polio eradication, and wrote directly to Minister Fantino asking for an increased commitment to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative of $250 million over 6 years. RESULTS Canada and Rotary International also co-hosted the Canadian premiere of The Final Inch – a documentary about polio eradication in India, attended by the public, polio experts, and Canadian journalists.
