World Immunization Week 2021

For years, vaccines have helped us connect. They have not only protected our health, but they have also let us be human and allowed our future to flourish. When people are equitably protected by safe and effective vaccines, this will help end the COVID-19 pandemic so that we can finally be together again.

This World Immunization Week (April 24-30) under the theme Vaccines Bring Us Closer, aims to unify health and immunization partners, organizations, and individuals around the story of how all vaccines bring us closer to the moments, people and goals we care most about. Not only will vaccines bring us closer to good health and wellbeing – they will bring us closer to a brighter future of seeing friends, moving around freely, equal education, stronger economies, and so much more. In addition, the Immunization Agenda 2030 "IA2030" will be launched to the press on April 26th! Help the immunization community celebrate the impact of routine immunization and call for renewed commitments to delivering the IA2030 vision by sharing key messages found here an tuning into the IA2030 Press Launch: April 26 @3:00pm CET - Livestream: here

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of vaccines as one of the great scientific innovations of our time. To end the pandemic, the majority of the world needs to be immune to COVID-19 and the safest way to achieve this is with a vaccine.

With all eyes on vaccines, World Immunization Week 2021 offers an opportunity to build support for immunizations and to learn more about what it will take to vaccinate the world. Vaccines can bring us closer to ending the pandemic, and will allow us to be physically closer again to one another.

- Mark Brender, National Director of Partners In Health (PIH) Canada
- Dr Rosamund Lewis, Head, WHO Smallpox Secretariat, WHO Emergencies Programme. Infodemic Management, COVID-19 global response team.

Here is what you can expect to learn:
- Why Canada must support the TRIPS intellectual property waiver tabled at the World Trade Organization
- What it will take for countries around the world to be ready to deliver mass COVID-19 immunization campaigns
- What is vaccine hesitancy, why it’s cause for concern, and what can be done to combat misinformation
