About ACTION Africa
ACTION Africa consists of ACTION Partners based in three African Union regions with regional and pan-African reach. ACTION Africa drives and supports locally led national, regional, and global agendas, leveraging its connections across the continent and with partners in the Global North to have even greater impact.

Our Work
ACTION Africa believes that full and meaningful engagement of African civil society in health planning, budgeting, implementation, and accountability is critical to achieving health equity across the continent. We support civil society advocacy initiatives across health issues, geographies, and functions by convening, strengthening, and mobilizing them to set the agenda for improved health across the continent.
We lead and convene key networks and initiatives to drive impact informed by local realities, including
Engaging communities to inform priorities in health programming and policy.
Leveraging official relations with the African Union to facilitate civil society engagement.
Leading pan-African and regional civil society networks, including GFAN Africa, The GFF We Want campaign, and The Joint Learning Agenda on Health Financing and UHC.
Convening national civil society platforms for Stop TB Partnership, SUN Movement, and GFF.
Representing civil society on boards of directors, including Stop TB Partnership, Roll Back Malaria, UNITAID, and the Global Fund.
Opening channels for civil society to meaningfully engage with global bodies, including the World Bank and G7/G20.

ACTION Africa Partners support their governments to take leadership in global health initiatives and increase their financial commitments. Some examples include:
- Mobilizing domestic resources for health by engaging parliamentarians and ministries in every country where we work, and creating, convening, and supporting the Parliamentarian Task Force on Domestic Resource Mobilization for Health in Africa.
- Convening parliamentary caucuses and committees on topics including health, TB, and nutrition in Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire.
- Identifying and deploying celebrity champions and local leaders in support of global health.
- Partnering with ministries to host national health financing meetings and platforms.
ACTION Africa Partners conduct and share research on impact and lessons learned, host parliamentary delegations and educate embassies from donor markets, and mobilize local civil society networks. We do this by:
- Documenting the impact of global health investments and the consequences of underfunding.
- Educating and supporting national parliamentarians on the health impact they can have for their constituents and underscoring the importance of key global health institutions.
- Hosting parliamentary delegations for donor country parliamentarians and leadership of global health initiatives.
- Engaging donor embassies across the continent to call for strong commitments to health.

ACTION Africa Partners also engage civil society to hold decision makers accountable. Examples include:
- Mobilizing campaigns to hold governments accountable for health commitments.
- Conducting analysis to hold African governments accountable and strengthen program implementation for TB, nutrition, immunization, and RMNCAH priorities through the GFF.
- Developing an Observatory of Health Financing in Africa to track funding commitments by donors in 10 countries.
- Collecting and sharing data showing health disparities and implications of insufficient government financing for health.
