About Us

The Advocacy to Control Tuberculosis Internationally (ACTION) project is an international partnership of advocates working to mobilize resources to treat and prevent the spread of tuberculosis (TB), a global disease that kills one person every 20 seconds. ACTION's underlying premise is that more rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic by building increased support for resources for effective TB control among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries (HBCs) and donor countries.

The project, currently funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other donors, uses cutting-edge advocacy strategies to support country-specific and global solutions for the control of TB:

Since its inception in 2004, ACTION partners have achieved numerous successes and made great progress towards eradicating TB, significantly contributing to the mobilization of US $554 million in additional funding for fighting TB from the project's target countries and bringing together the TB and HIV/AIDS communities in the project's target high burden countries to improve their response to TB-HIV by setting bold policies and increasing civil society's advocacy capacity.

Yet, there is still much more work to be done, which is why we have created www.action.org. It is our hope that this website will serve as a place where global citizens and experienced advocates alike can not only become more educated about TB but also get involved and take action to fight TB and other global health issues.
