Allan Ragi (Chair)
Mr. Allan Ragi is a specialist in public health with experience in national policy development and advocacy, capacity building and networking community service organizations including networks of people living with HIV and AIDS. Over the years, he has represented CSOs in different Capacities and Forums at the National, Regional and Global level including but not limited to, the Kenya Global Fund Country Coordinating Mechanism, the Kenya National AIDS Control Council, and other donor health related Harmonization committees. Allan also sits as an advisor in St. Paul’s University Institute of Long Life Learning and Leadership Development.
At the global level, Allan represents the voice and interest of CSOs from the south with RESULTS Educational Fund partners. He is also a member of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance Policy Advisory Committee. In the recent past, he has been a member of the GFATM Developing NGO Countries Delegation, and the Finance Operation and Performance Committee (FOPC) of GFATM. Allan is currently the executive director of Kenya AIDS NGOs Consortium (KANCO) and has worked in the area of public health for over 35 years in different institutions at different capacities.
An international expert and spokesperson on global poverty issues, Mr. Aaron Oxley is the executive director of RESULTS UK, a grassroots advocacy organization that generates the public and political will to end the root causes of hunger and poverty in the developing world. Aaron works closely with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; the World Health Organization; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; the Global Partnership for Education; and other international organizations.
Aaron serves as the Developed Country Civil Society Constituency Representative on the Stop TB Partnership’s Board, and on its Executive Committee. He also serves on the Board of the Munich Climate Insurance Initiative, a leading think-tank working on climate risk insurance in the UNFCCC negotiations and beyond.
Aaron holds a Master’s in Global Politics from the London School of Economics. He has a decade of experience in building microfinance and microinsurance organizations in developing countries to provide financial services to people in some of the poorest communities in the world.
Dr. Bobby John
Dr. Bobby John is managing director of Aequitas Consulting Pvt. Ltd. He trained to be a physician at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, but stepped out of a career with the Indian Army to work among the rural poor in village Kedgaon of Maharashtra, India. He subsequently worked as Administrator at the NM Wadia Hospital in Pune.
Bobby founded (in 2013) and currently leads Æquitas, a group of professionals who work together across disciplines to see health as an outcome of public policies, and of their own work. These professionals bring deep technical, implementation and communications expertise to support the formulation and implementation of public policies that lead to health as an outcome.
Bobby co-founded (in 2004) Global Health Advocates (Switzerland/France/India) and was executive director of Global Health Advocates India (2004–2013), a public health policy group based in Chennai/New Delhi. In this role, Bobby worked with Indian and other national governments, international agencies and civil society organizations on issues related to governance, finance, development and foreign policy to improve health in India and beyond.
He has served as a member on the developing country NGO board delegation of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (2006–2010, and Bobby also served as the chair of its ethics committee. He has served as the advocacy and public affairs lead for the India office of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (2010–2011) and as the HIV/AIDS coordinator for World Vision India (2001–2002).
As an advisor and member of governing boards and technical working groups, Bobby has served George Soros' Open Society Institute, the Population Foundation of India, MD India Pvt. Ltd, Saahasee, the Emmanuel Hospital Association, and the Governments of India, South Africa, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. He currently advises two Bangalore based biotechnology startups in the diagnostics space.
Carol Nawina Kachenga
Ms. Carol Nawina Nyirenda is a patient/health advocate from Lusaka, Zambia. She is the executive director of the Community Initiative for Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and Malaria (CITAMplus) based in Lusaka, Zambia which is a patient-led organization.
Carol has lived openly, positively, and productively with HIV for more than 14 years and uses her personal experience with both TB and HIV, as well as working directly with the affected communities at the grassroots level to advocate for policy change at national, regional, and international levels. She is a member of the Zambia Country Co-ordinating Mechanism (CCM) representing TB and Malaria constituencies and serves as coordinator of the Oversight Committee of the CCM. She is a founder-member and national coordinator of the Coalition of Zambian Women Living with HIV (COZWHA+).
At international level, Carol has in the recent past held positions on several executive boards of global health initiatives including the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; Stop TB Partnership Coordinating; and International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, where she represents affected communities bringing the much-needed reality check of the unique value of lived experience to these important meetings. At regional level, Carol is a member of the Global Fund funded TB in the Mining Sector (TIMS) Regional Coordinating Mechanism (RCM) and chairperson of the RCM Oversight Committee. She is also the president of the Africa Coalition on TB (ACT!) and former chairperson of Pan African Positive Women’s Coalition (PAPWC).
Carol is a TB and cancer survivor and this has made her very passionate about the work she does in and for the communities because she has experienced the diseases first hand and works and lives among the affected community. She has been able to transform this personal experience into a political campaign to address TB/HIV and has incorporated TB advocacy into her national and global HIV activism. She has also played a major role in the development of the Zambia’s Global Fund Concept Note and Funding Request and was part of the writing team. To further enhance her skills, Carol is currently undertaking an online Bachelor Degree in Development Studies with the Atlantic International University.
Ms. Chris Dendys has more than 20 years of experience working in pursuit of social justice and social impact. She has expertise in strategic positioning and advocacy, government relations, developing and advancing smart partnerships, and supporting grassroots movements. She has served at the executive level within the international development sector for more than a decade.
Presently, as interim executive director of RESULTS Canada (RC), Chris oversees all aspects of RC’s organizational strengthening efforts, campaign strategy, and grassroots support and growth. A leading Canadian grassroots advocacy organization, RC is committed to creating the political will to end poverty. Prior to joining RC, Chris served as director of external relations, at Nutrition International (NI) for six years. NI is one of the world’s largest nutrition-focused development organizations. At NI, Chris was responsible for communications, advocacy, strategic partnerships, and played a leading role in resource mobilization, supporting a significant expansion of NI’s resource base. Prior to NI and RC, Chris worked as a consultant, supporting a number of non-government organizations, and also held a variety of positions in government, in Parliament, and in politics.
Chris has four children and lives in Ottawa. She holds a Master’s in Canadian Studies from Carleton University.
Dr. Joanne Carter is the executive director of RESULTS/RESULTS Educational Fund (REF), a grassroots advocacy organization generating the public and political will to end the root causes of poverty globally and in the United States. Joanne joined RESULTS/REF as legislative director in 1992, was appointed associate executive director in 2007 and executive director in 2008.
As legislative director of RESULTS/REF, Joanne worked with key Administration and Congressional allies, partner organizations, and technical agencies orchestrating U.S. and international campaigns to tackle major diseases of poverty, increase access to education (including abolition of school fees), expand economic opportunity for the poorest, and reform World Bank and International Monetary Fund policies. Under her leadership, RESULTS was been instrumental in the creation and expansion of the Child Survival and Health Programs Fund, expansion of global TB funding, legislation to ensure that at least half of microenterprise development resources are devoted to those living on less than $1 a day, an initiative to support countries to eliminate school fees for public primary school, and provisions that require U.S. representatives to the World Bank and IMF to oppose user fees for primary health and education. As founding project leader for the ACTION global health advocacy partnership, Joanne has helped build this partnership across ten countries on five continents and guide its efforts to help mobilize billions of dollars of financial resources, and achieve critical policy reforms and political leadership to end diseases of poverty and ensure equitable access to health.
Joanne is the vice chair of the Stop TB Partnership Coordinating Board, a partnership of more than 1000 organizations around the world. From 2009 to 2011, Joanne served as the Board Member to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria representing Developed Country NGOs and from 2012–2014 served on the Global Fund Board’s Strategic, Investment, and Impact Committee. Joanne also serves on the board of the Micronutrient Initiative and the Global Campaign for Education-U.S., and is currently serving on the Oversight Group for development of the new Global Financing Facility for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health.
Joanne holds a DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) degree from Cornell University and was a practicing veterinarian from 1987 to 1992. She has served as a VISTA volunteer and as a recruiter for the Peace Corps. Prior to joining RESULTS/REF staff, Joanne served as a RESULTS volunteer group leader and then regional coordinator for four years in the New York City area.
Mr. John Mathai is the executive director and co-founder of Global Health Advocates (GHA) India. He has been functioning as its Secretary right from its inception and been associated with the ACTION partnership from the very beginning in 2004.
After two and a half decades of work experience in the areas of marketing, exports, general management and finally as CEO in the corporate private sector in India with organizations like Unilever, MRF, Standard Batteries, and JBM Sungwoo, John stepped out to serve in the not-for-profit sector. As national director of World Vision India, he set up the national disaster relief program as well as their HIV/AIDS response initiative and led their multi-sectoral interventions through area development programs in over 100 locations spread across the country. He was also the executive director of the Christian AIDS National Alliance—a network of Christian agencies and churches focusing on this work in India.
Over the years, Global Health Advocates India has been at the forefront of TB-focused health advocacy working through stakeholders and partners. Taking advantage of his vast network of contacts over the years, John has helped recast GHA India operations since 2014 entirely as a voluntary network of professionals from the private sector and the NGO community, who offer their services on a pro bono basis. It is in this phase that he has led GHA India to play the coordination role to engage more than 100 experts across multiple specialties and institutions to set up the India Extrapulmonary TB guidelines approved by the Ministry of Health in India. And under his leadership, GHA India continues to also be the sole civil society member voice in the Indian National TB/HIV working group.
He holds a Bachelor’s of Technology degree in metallurgy and a Master’s of Technology degree in industrial management, both from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He also holds a Master’s of Arts degree in general theological studies from the Columbia International University, South Carolina.
Louis Da Gama
Mr. Louis Da Gama serves as board director for the Princess of Africa Foundation and humanitarian adviser to its founder, South African musician and celebrity Yvonne Chaka Chaka, supporting her role as UNICEF and Nelson Mandela’s 46664 Goodwill Ambassador. Louis has focused on communications and advocacy issues impacting malaria as well as advocacy for AIDS, TB, maternal, child, and newborn health.
He is a co-founder of Global Health Advocates (Switzerland/France). Currently, Louis is a non-executive director of Global Health Advocates France and the Princess of Africa Foundation. He works at the global, regional, country, and community level for greater transparency, accountability, and financial resources to fight malaria, AIDS, and tuberculosis (TB) and to finance reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH).
Since 2005, Louis has served on the Communities Delegation to the Board of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and is the CSO member on the Global Fund Regional Malaria Mekong Country Coordinating Mechanism.
Louis has served as key adviser on the UNITAID Board Communities Delegation for 10 years (2007–2016) and served on the Roll Back Malaria Board Southern NGO Delegation until 2015.
Ms. Maree Nutt has been the CEO of RESULTS Australia since 2007 and has been involved in poverty reduction advocacy with the organization for over 25 years. Maree was a key organizer of major Australian advocacy events around the World Summit for Children (1990), International Year of Microcredit (2005), UN Development Conference (2007) and World TB Day (2015).
Maree regularly features in the media commenting on matters relating to Australian aid particularly on global health. With the leaders of other development agencies Maree sits on the Steering Group for the Campaign for Australian Aid.
Maree’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy). During her 20-year allied health career she specialized in the area of rehabilitation therapy.
As the national director of RESULTS Japan, Ms. Noriko Shirasu provides overall project management, including strategic development for the ACTION project in Japan since 2007. She also serves as the representative director of Stop TB Partnership Japan and director of Citizens & NGO Forum for International Solidarity Levies.
Noriko started her career with RESULTS as a project manager of RESULTS Japan. Prior to joining RESULTS, she served as director of Review Board Member of Patients Support Fund, and facilitator of the Volunteer Group for Patients Who Need Bone Marrow Grafts, at Japan Marrow Donor Foundation.
Mr. Patrick Bertrand has 20 years of experience in advocating for global health. He is the director and founder of Global Health Advocates France, an NGO focused on generating political momentum for global health on a domestic and international scale. Patrick is a founding member of the Action for Global Health Network, a European coalition focused on achieving the health MDGs, consisting of 15 NGOs based in five countries. He is also a founding member of the ACTION global health advocacy partnership consisting of advocacy organizations working to influence policy and mobilize resources to fight diseases of poverty and improve equitable access to health services. ACTION partners work across five continents in both donor and high burden countries. Global Health Advocates also coordinates the TB Europe Coalition in Brussels.
Patrick is actively involved in various health-related initiatives, including being a member of the Gavi CSO steering committee as well as the selecting committee of the 5% Initiative. He holds a Master’s in communications from the University of Grenoble, France.
Ms. Rosemary W. Mburu is the executive director for WACI Health, formerly known as World AIDS Campaign International. She has over 12 years of international experience in areas of public health research, programming, and advocacy. Rosemary is a civil society organizer who has extensively worked on building and strengthening civil society networks and platforms on health-related advocacy and campaigning in Africa. Her current role involves policy analysis, advocacy and civil society organizing towards a united African civil society voice and action to influence political decisions towards ending AIDS among other life-threatening epidemics and improving health for all in Africa. Rosemary holds a Master’s in Public Health from Ohio University; a Master’s in Business Administration from Frostburg State University, Maryland; and a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University, Kenya.
