RESULTS Educational Fund (US)

ACTION is an International Partnership of Civil Society Advocates

ACTION’s mission is to build support for increased resources for effective TB control, especially among key policymakers and other opinion leaders in both high TB burden countries and donor countries. With effective policy advocacy and greater political will, rapid progress can be made against the global TB epidemic.

RESULTS Educational Fund

Background: RESULTS Educational Fund (REF) is part of an international network of volunteers whose purpose is to generate the public and political will to end poverty.

Mission: To perform evidence-based research on global health, infectious disease, and poverty issues and educate the public, policy makers, and opinion leaders to leverage millions of dollars for tuberculosis and related global health policies.

RESULTS Educational Fund has been instrumental in working towards ACTION’s goals by:

  1. Due in part to REF’s advocacy, compared to a 2007 baseline, from 2008 to 2009, the U.S.‘s contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria increased by a cumulative $481.4 million.
  2. REF authored Living with HIV, Dying of TB: A Critique of the Response of Major AIDS Donors to the Co-epidemic. This major policy report assessed how the largest global AIDS donors are addressing the problem of TB-HIV infection through their support for HIV/AIDS efforts. This report served to fill a research gap on donor agencies’ policies addressing the TB-HIV co-epidemic.
  3. REF, with the support of Eli Lilly and Company, has hosted several media trainings for TB and TB-HIV advocates. These trainings are essential to increase the number of influential spokespeople who can successfully raise awareness and support for global TB control issues.
