World AIDS Day 2012 Success story

World AIDS Day 2012

In the lead up to President Obama making the historic commitment on World AIDS Day 2012 to reach an additional 2 million people with AIDS treatment, ACTION participated as a member of the civil society coalition which made the case for taking on this goal.

ACTION voiced unequivocal support for this goal to key members of the Administration, and it collaborated with other members of the coalition to bring more voices to bear, such as from faith based organizations. ACTION also activated its grassroots on the issue, resulting in some letters to the editor. This civil society pressure ultimately proved crucial to the outcome

We generated more than 50 media placements to highlight the Global Fund’s invaluable contributions, including editorials, op-eds and stories in the Houston Chronicle, Detroit Free Press, Miami Herald, Times Picayune, and The Hill. There was also a letter drafted from congress.  This is also recorded in the U.S. section of the Gates report.
